My name is Chappell (rhymes with apple). I’m a writer, editor, and design advocate. Nothing makes me happier than sitting at a table with people who want to work together to make things better.
Some of the ways I enjoy supporting the design process include: writing, research, content strategy, project management, reporting, editing, and copywriting.
My writing style has changed over the years, but my overall communication philosophy remains the same:
- Be as clear as possible.
- Respect your audience.
I’ve worked with some wonderful companies and institutions like the Museum of Modern Art, Etsy, Museum of the Moving Image, Design Observer, and now, the City of New York. I received my MFA in Design Writing, Research and Criticism at the School of Visual Arts, where I often teach.
Recently, I helped make a book about how and why we design for people.
I live in Long Island City, New York where strangers constantly ask about my Texas drawl. In my spare time you can find me in front of a video game console or sewing machine.
